I carried this tradition on with Bill, and now we have "Pizza Fridays" probably 2-3 times a month. Yummy!
Okay - i wouldn't really call this a secret recipe or anything....and I'm not sure if it even qualifies as "homemade" (since everything is store-bought!)
But for those of you who have never tried it (or need a new recipe), here is how I make my pizza:
Ingredients:
- Refrigerated pizza dough (I like Pillsbury best)
- Pizza sauce (my favorite is Boboli brand. Ragu and DelGroso are also good options)
- 2 cups shredded low-fat mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded "Italian blend" cheese (or cheddar, Parmesan, whatever you like)
- Sliced pepperoni
- Sliced mushrooms
- Garlic powder
- Black pepper
- "Pizza seasoning" or dried basil and oregano
- Set oven to preheat at 450 degrees.
- Spread pizza crust out onto cookie sheet or pizza tray
- Sprinkle with garlic powder and seasonings
- Throw crust in the oven while it's preheating, to give it a head start and make it a little browner and crisper. I leave mine in about 8-10 minutes total.
- In the meantime, put sliced mushrooms in a small skillet with a little bit of oil (I use a splash of Greek dressing, for flavor), sprinkle with black pepper and cook on medium-high heat about 4-5 minutes.
- When crust has been pre-cooked, remove from oven and cover in a thin layer of sauce (or to your liking).
- Cover with mozzarella cheese.
- Add toppings - for us, we do half in pepperoni and half in mushrooms.
- Sprinkle with remaining cheese (Italian blend, or whatever you chose).
- Bake in preheated oven for 10-13 minutes, or until cheese is golden and bubbling and edges of crust look slightly browned.
